I had an especially good fishing trip on the Owyhee River recently and wanted to share with others how it went.

First a bit about me – I’m 71 years old and have a physical impairment that makes wading very difficult. I learned a long time ago that flat feet and degraded balance don’t accommodate round rocks very well! I refuse to let my impairment keep me from enjoying fly fishing.

It takes a special guide to accommodate my difficulties and I’ve found one. Andrew Catt, of Dreams On The Fly guide service, was my guide. Andrew has the patience, experience, and sense of service that enabled him to assist me in wading to the best places on the river. Andy made sure that I never once felt that I was not safe. Andrews easy going, always encouraging guidance really helped me locate and catch fish. Hats off to Andrew!

So what kind of day did we have? I hooked and netted north of 20 nice Brown Trout and 1 very fat, feisty 18” Rainbow. The Browns ranged from 16” to 21” and all were healthy enough to put up a good fight. The Rainbow just did not want to come to the net but patience endured. You don’t have this kind of day on the Owyhee unless you know the river and the hatch. Andrew is an expert at both.

I highly recommend using Dreams On The Fly and Andrew Catt if you are going to fish the Owyhee River. I know I’ll be fishing with him again this summer! – Jack Schaefer*
